How to Dress for a Dinner Party

Have you been invited to a dinner party? If you have, you should honour the host of the event by dressing up in a manner that is suitable for the affair. As you must know by now, people will also judge you by how you dress, so when you are asked to go to one of these events, you should plan your wardrobe accordingly. First, you should take a look at the kind of invitation which you have been sent. From it alone, you will be able to tell if the affair is the formal kind or is a little bit on the casual side. You might even find instructions stating the kind of attire in which you are expected to come, such as "formal" or "cocktail wear".

For informal kind of dinner parties such as barbecues or picnics, jeans, shorts, and T-shirts are generally considered acceptable. However, if it is a corporate event and it requires you to come in business attire, you can wear a sports jacket and trousers if you are a man. If you are lady, you can dress in a pantsuit or a skirt suit.

In addition to this, a "cocktail" affair requires that men come in a suit with a white tie and ladies in a dress or pant suit that is slightly more elaborate than what they wear in an office.
